[PLAYER]
Name: bb
AIM: oh deers
[CHARACTER]
Name: Peter Parker
Codename: Spider-Man
Age: Thirty-nine
Character Base: Spider-Man
Home Reality: Earth 628; The youngest of Marvel's heroes are beginning to hit their forties, while many have already retired from the spotlight. A new generation of heroes and villains are starting to pop up.
What did this person do wrong to be pulled out by the Timebroker? Peter has kids and a family now. He's unwilling to put the mask back on for fear of endangering them. Instead of living by the mantra of "with great power comes great responsibility" it's now "with great power means putting away responsibility because I have kids." His abduction is only part of the wake up call that he needs to don the suit. In reality the only way to truly protect his family comes with protecting the rest of the world, too.
Appearance: No one looking at Peter Parker finds him especially intimidating. Casual? Yes. Friendly? Sure. Web-slinging bad ass? No. With a slim build, standing at five-foot-eleven, mused brown hair, brown eyes, a small mole left of his mouth, he looks very much like a mild mannered freelance photographer with an emphasis on the mild mannered.
PB: Sam Rockwell
Powers / Skills
• Superhuman level physical abilities including strength, reflexes, agility and balance.
• Enhanced skeleton, connective tissues, muscles and nervous system.
• Healing factor that allows him to recover from broken bones in a matter of hours and more serious injuries within a day or two. This has slowed quite a bit due to his age.
• Wall crawling. Peter can climb up vertical surfaces and upside down on ceilings.
• Spidey-sense. A subconscious, precognitive sense that alerts him of danger and limits "surprise" attacks.
• Webbing. Spider-Man can create webbing from his wrists in order to swing from point A to point B, to create webs or sticky blobs in order to blind opponents. The webs break down after several hours and can vary in stickiness.
• Enhanced metabolism means a high drug tolerance. Peter needs larger doses in order to get the same effect as an ordinary human, though the effect still won't last as long.
• Fighting style. Spider-Man has a unique fighting style which is in part due to his natural athletic ability and spider mutation that no other hero has been able to emulate. It started as improvisational free style and bullshit. But with over twenty years experience, and some real combat training from Captain America, he's only gotten better.
• Intelligence. Before the bite, Peter Parker was a gifted academic that would have had a promising scientific career. He's quite knowledgeable when it comes to biology, chemistry, physics, engineering and electronics-- all good things to have a working knowledge of when fighting mad scientists. Which he did. Frequently.
Weaknesses:
• Age. Peter isn't a young man anymore. Before he could function on getting the tar beaten out of him all night, sleep for a few hours and go to school the next day on a regular basis. Although he still has an impressive healing factor and physical capabilities, he still has limits. As he gets older those limits become more and more obvious.
• When Peter comes down with the flu, his powers can fritz out. He's still quite vulnerable to disease. Trying to fight crime when even his wall crawling might fail on him at any moment? Not fun at all.
• He also has a certain susceptibility towards ethyl chloride, which is a commonly used pesticide against insects and arachnids. Bad guys have used variations of the bug spray to incapacitate him.
• Further mutations. Peter's mutation isn't stable. It never will be. There have been times when he has mutated into a giant spider, or when villains have forced him to mutate further. Thankfully there's always been a fix in the past but there may come a time when Peter's luck has finally run out.
Personality:
• Smart ass.
Overview:
• Richard and Mary Parker were covert agents who worked for the CIA, killed by Red Skull during a mission when their cover was compromised. Peter is raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May, an older couple, in Queens, New York. In school, Peter is a gangly, unpopular nerd more interested in science and photography than sports and is frequently bullied.
• At a major science exhibit in NYC, Peter is bit by a radioactive spider. It triggers the beginning of a mutation that starts with enhanced physical capabilities, the ability to climb walls and surfaces without handholds and a "spider sense". The mutations will continue to develop including enhanced healing and web slinging.
• Peter decides to use these abilities to make a fortune. As a teenager, he sees an opportunity in professional wrestling-- winning his match against Crusher Hogan as a masked wrestler named Spider-man. High off his first victory and beginning to stir up interest in the media, Peter lets a thief go without lifting a finger. The very same thief kills Uncle Ben in an attempted car hijacking.
• "With great power comes great responsibility." Racked with guilt, Parker cleans up his act and decides to use his abilities to fight crime. The Daily Bugle decides instantly that Spider-man is a menace and a criminal. During high school he teams up frequently with the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and Daredevil.
• Parker decides to take photos of himself and sell them to The Bugle in order to pay his way through college at ESU. During college he meets Harry Osborn, his best friend and roommate, and Gwen Stacy who he falls madly in love with. Harry's father, Norman Osborn, is revealed to be the Green Goblin who in turn discovers Parker's identity. Stacey's father, a cop, is also killed during a brawl between Spider-man and Dr. Octopus.
• SHIELD attempts to recruit Spider-man for their Avengers project. Spider-man manages to weasel his way out of working for the government, but helps them frequently, becoming close friends with Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. Captain America helps develop Spider-man's close combat skills.
• Peter tries to rid himself of his powers, instead antagonizing his mutation which causes him to grow four additional arms. An antidote is eventually created and Peter is returned to "normal."
• Because the Green Goblin knows Spider-man's identity, he abducts Gwen Stacy who dies in the attempt to rescue her. Peter tries to withdraw from his friends and Aunt May, fearing that his crime fighting activities puts them in too much danger. Eventually Parker moves on and begins dating Mary Jane Watson. He first proposes to her in college but she turns him down.
• Peter takes a detour on an alien planet where he's forced to fight in a giant battle between Earth's heroes and villains for the entertainment of an alien race. Spider-man is given a new costume which responds to his thoughts and enhances his abilities. It isn't until later that he finds out the costume is an alien life form attempting to bond with its host. Parker ditches the costume which bonds with Parker's professional rival, Eddie Brock, who becomes the villain Venom. (There's Carnage, too. That's another story.)
• Peter continues to fight crime well into his thirties. Being Spider-man means sacrificing a career in scientific research and barely scratching out a living as a freelance photographer. It also puts considerable strain on his relationship with MJ, who deduced Parker's secret identity.
• Many of the super heroes who have fought side by side with Parker are starting to get older. Some retire, including villains. Harry Osborn learns of his father's role as the Green Goblin and becomes a next generation version of the same villain, calling himself the Hobgoblin. Many of the Avengers and X-Men are replaced with younger faces, as many of the original heroes have hit their 50s and 60s.
• Parker proposes to MJ again and she accepts. They're finally married and the beginning of their marriage is rocky. At her encouragement, Parker goes back to school to get a PHD in biochemistry as her modeling career takes off and begins to branch into a few acting guest spots on TV shows. Parker publishes a book of his pictures of Spider-man over the years.
• Other highlights of his long career; he has a clone, he's framed for murder, Aunt May is kidnapped and murdered by Harry Osborn in revenge for Parker putting his father behind bars, joins the Avengers officially, works as Stark's assistant and moves his wife into Stark Tower.
• MJ and Parker have a baby girl, May Parker. Parker leaves the Avengers, retires the Spider-man costume and is consequently fired by Stark. The Parkers move to Queens and try to live a normal life. Parker goes back to photography and part time as a substitute teacher to help pay the bills. Two years later the Parkers have a second child and name him Ben. While Peter's children appear human, he doesn't realize they will both inherit his abilities when they come of age.
• Three days before Ben turns one, Peter Parker is abducted by the Timebroker.
Special Note: Spider-man's secret identity is the worst kept secret ever. Most of the people he worked with knew who he was. Chances are on your world, if you worked with Spider-man you knew his less-than-secret identity.
